The Literary Arts course in playwriting is a dynamic yearlong experience which culminates in each student entering a play into the annual CSA Festival of New Works program.
Literary Arts students learn to develop well-rounded character forms for the bulk of this course. The guiding philosophy behind this strategy is that strong, believable characters are the basis of a play’s action, plot, mood, and tone. Throughout the course of the year, student playwrights undergo a rigorous series of peer-to-peer writing workshops, monthly writing retreats, and individualized discussions with the lead instructor and teaching artists.
Literary Arts Department Chair, Daniel Gray-Kontar and Theatre Arts Department Chair, Dr. Scott Miller mentor, guide, and lead the students through this intensive course.
